Eligibility Requirements

The BGSR planning committee is thrilled to announce the opportunity to support our second cohort of BGSR Curators! 

Goals

The collective priority is to cultivate a network and legacy of Black women, health advocates who will support one another as they amplify the HIV Risk to Reason framework, sexual agency, and the power of Black women’s happiness and health!

Qualifications

Black women, including cisgender and transgender womenFull-time student ages 18-25 Students at a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI) or Historically Black College or University (HBCU) Willing to create opportunities to advance health for Black women on their campuses.

ASBW Experience

ASBW will be an immersive experience of sharing, learning, teaching, and truth-telling through various forms of expression, such as art, music, storytelling, and safe spaces for candid conversations. Our intention is to create a moment where Black women feel seen, heard, and valued, embracing the full spectrum of their experiences in seeking pleasure, healing, communication, love, and living in health. As participants, you will be integral to the rallying cry for Black women's wellness and liberation.

Continuing the Journey

The impact of ASBW extends beyond the weekend. Students will "Spring into Action" with tailored programming, leveraging the knowledge and connections gained to improve opportunities for communication about Black women and HIV. They will be supported through:
Capacity Building: including financial support in the form of a mini-grant to host Campus Kickback events. Technical Assistance: guidance and mentorship provided by ASBW hosts and subject matter experts.Community: access to diverse peers, mentors, and experts committed to empowering Black women health advocates.

We encourage students who have a keen interest in any of the following areas to apply and contribute their unique perspectives and insights:

Health and Wellness AdvocacyA desire to learn about and promote comprehensive health, particularly regarding Black women's reproductive health and sexual well-being.
HIV Awareness and PreventionA commitment to increasing awareness about HIV, its impact on marginalized communities, and strategies for prevention and support.
Social Justice and AdvocacyAn interest in advocating for equitable access to resources, representation, and opportunities for all.
Black Liberation and EmpowermentA passion for driving positive change within the Black community and empowering Black women.
Reproductive JusticeA dedication to promoting reproductive rights and access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare for all individuals.
Gender EquityAn understanding of the importance of achieving gender equality and dismantling harmful gender norms and stereotypes.
